About Me

I'm Sarah, an experienced writer and editor who creates engaging and clear content for a wide variety of clients. I consider myself a generalist who can tackle any story, but I most often write about geoscience, engineering, environment, and climate.

Before becoming a science journalist, I was a geologist. I hold a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Cincinnati where I studied glacial geology and past climate changes. After being drawn to science communication, I switched career paths and graduated from the UC Santa Cruz Science Communications program.

My work appears in national and international news outlets including The New York Times, Scientific American, Eos, and Mongabay. I also have extensive editing experience working with news publications, university press offices, government agencies, and independent book authors.

Outside of science and technology, I'm an avid hockey fan, a wannabe gardener with a semi-green thumb, a coffee aficionado, and a pickleball enthusiast.

I'm available for new opportunities, including:

  • features, news stories, profiles, press releases
  • institutional writing
  • white papers
  • B2B writing
  • editing
  • audio editing and producing
